Webinar Presentation by Buehler in Conjunction with Instron BioMedical Open House

In conjunction with Instron’s Virtual Biomedical Open House   Buehler is excited to team up with sister companies in the ITW Test and Measurement Group: Instron and North Star Imaging in this four-day biomedical virtual education event.   Buehler’s topic will focus on metallographic preparation of medical implants and components. Medical materials utilize different alloys and coatings for good mechanical strength, wear and corrosion resistant properties, super elasticity and most importantly bio-compatibility. Care must be given in the particular ways each type of material must be prepared for analysis.

Buehler’s webinar includes examples of metallographic preparation procedures for medical grade stainless steels, titanium and its alloys and cobalt alloys. In addition, the webinar will also highlight preparation approaches for ceramic based materials such as dental materials, and other coatings applied on metallic substrates to facilitate grafting with human tissue when used.

Medical components and materials can present unique metallographic preparation challenges relating to mechanical damage during sectioning and grinding, as well as masking of microstructural details during polishing stages. Potential difficulties during metallographic preparation include:

  • Fracture of hard or brittle materials
  • Deformation or loss of soft materials;
  • Development of false porosity
  • Foreign contamination from abrasives used during polishing.

This webinar will highlight the preparation challenges and approaches that should be adopted to achieve good quality, efficient preparation, and correct evaluation of a wide range of medical components, materials and devices. The webinar is ideal for metallurgical technicians, engineers, quality control and laboratory managers in any metallography facility working with medical materials or components. Ideal equipment for lab will be discussed and may include IsoMet High Speed precision cutter, Mounting Press, Grinder/Polisher, and the right Consumables.   Register today for free to secure your place in the virtual Buehler classroom. You will also receive a certificate of participation right after the Webinar. For the complimentary paper on Metallography Preparation of medical implants and orthopedics, contact your area manager.

Bonus Free Class: Essentials of Biomedical Testing

As a bonus for attending any of the Biomedical live virtual Open House sessions, you’ll receive a single-use code for free access to Instron’s Essentials of Biomedical Testing eLearning course ($99 value). All you need to do is register for this session or any other in our Biomedical Open House with a valid company or educational email address AND complete the post-event survey immediately after the live session – and then we’ll email you a single-use code you can use to view the course at a later time. After the Buehler session you will have the survey to complete.*   *Limit one code per person. Must register with a valid company, .edu or .ac email address. Generic personal email addresses (i.e. Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) and competitor email addresses are excluded from this free bonus.
